Identity 3.0 Migration Status & Known Issues

Last Updated: 10/16/2026 at 11:30am

Bemidji State University and Northwest Technical College are transitioning to Identity 3.0, a Minnesota State identity and access management update.

This page will be used to provide current migration status, known issues, workarounds, and resolution updates during and immediately following the transition.

If you are experiencing an issue, check this page before contacting the Technology Support Desk. We will update it as new information becomes available.

Current Status

🟢 Identity 3.0 Status: Normal Operations

No widespread issues are currently known related to the Identity 3.0 migration.

If you are experiencing an individual login or access problem, please contact the Technology Support Desk.

Migration Schedule

The Identity 3.0 migration for BSU and NTC is scheduled for Monday, October 19, beginning at 5 p.m.

Users should save their work and log out before 5 p.m. The campus migration communication currently identifies the transition window as 5 p.m. to midnight.

During the migration, some campus services may be temporarily unavailable or behave differently while accounts are updated.

Important

Do not change your StarID password during the migration window.

The migration team specifically identified password changes during the transition as something users should avoid because Enterprise Services and local services could temporarily recognize different passwords until Okta synchronization is enabled.

Known Issues & Service Alerts

🟢 No Current Known Issues

No widespread Identity 3.0 issues are currently being reported.

If issues are identified during or after migration, they will be posted here with their current status and any available workaround.

Things You May Notice After the Migration

Some changes may be expected behavior, not an outage.

Sign-in changes

For students, the standard Minnesota State sign-in format is:

StarID@go.minnstate.edu

For employees:

StarID@minnstate.edu

Wi-Fi

Wireless authentication is one area the project team identified as potentially affected by the account changes. Users may need to reconnect or reauthenticate after their account has been migrated.

Students should transition to the eduroam wireless network. You can find instructions to connect on our knowledge base article on connecting to eduroam.

Employees should use the eduroam wireless network during the transition period but plan to revert back to the BSU or NTC wireless after services have been restored.

If you cannot connect after migration:
Follow the campus wireless troubleshooting instructions or contact the Technology Support Desk.

Printing

Printing will be validated as part of post-migration testing. The migration team specifically identified PaperCut/printing as a service requiring synchronization and validation following the Identity 3.0 account changes.

If you experience a printing problem after the migration, check the Known Issues section above before reporting the issue.

Mac computers

Campus-managed Macs have received additional preparation for the Identity 3.0 transition, and the migration team has specifically reviewed Mac login/profile behavior as part of readiness work.

If your usual credentials do not work after migration, check the Known Issues section above or contact the Technology Support Desk.

VPN

VPN availability is being treated as a migration-day dependency. Your pre-migration planning specifically called for clear communication when VPN is unavailable rather than asking users to repeatedly retry connections.

If VPN is listed as unavailable above, please do not repeatedly attempt to reconnect. Wait until this page indicates that VPN service has been restored.

What Should I Do If I Have a Problem?

  1. Check the Known Issues section above.
If your issue is listed, follow the workaround provided.

  2. Try your new standard sign-in format.

    • Students: StarID@go.minnstate.edu
    • Employees: StarID@minnstate.edu
  3. Do not repeatedly retry a service that is listed as unavailable.

  4. If your issue is not listed here, contact the Technology Support Desk and include:

    • Your StarID
    • Whether you are a student, employee, or both
    • Whether you are affiliated with BSU, NTC, or both
    • The service or application you are trying to access
    • The error message you receive
    • A screenshot, if available

Resolved Issues

We will move resolved Identity 3.0 issues here so users can see that service has been restored.

No resolved issues to report at this time.
