EMERITUS: Office 365 license changes.

Audience

Emeritus Faculty and Staff

Question

Why am I getting a notification that my Office 365 subscription will soon end or is no longer valid?

Answer

Microsoft has recently changed the licensing schema for Microsoft products at Minnesota State which has resulted in BSU changing the way in which we license Emeritus faculty and staff.

With this change you will no longer be able to download the full version of Microsoft Office and install it on your personal computer. If you want the full downloaded versions off Microsoft Office you will need to purchase a subscription from Microsoft or continue to use the online version at no cost.

You will still be able to access your email and other Microsoft Office products online by following these instructions:

  1. Go to https://www.office.com
  2. Select Sign in
    • Office.com Home Page

  3. Enter your StarID@minnstate.edu (as an example ab1234cd@minnstate.edu) and select Next
    • Sign In Dialog Box
  4. Enter your StarID password and select Sign In
  5. Receive the text or call to verify your identity to complete the sign in process.
  6. If this is your personal device select Yes to stay signed in, if you are using a shared device or borrowing someone else device select No. Stay Signed In dialog box.
  7. You are now signed into Office.com and you will see the applications listed on the left side of the screen to select, or you can click on the 9 dots in the top left corner (referred to as the waffle) to access all the applications.
