Adding a link to text or an image in WordPress

Who can use it?

Employees with editor access to a site.

What is it?

A link is a word, group of words, or image that you can click on to go to a new page.

Instructions

  1. Copy the URL you want to use to your computer’s clipboard.
    • You can do this by highlighting a URL, then right-clicking it and choosing Copy, or by using a keyboard shortcut like CTRL + C (PC) or CMD + C (Mac).
  2. While editing your page or post, highlight the text and/or image you want to link.
  3. Click the (link) icon that appears in the editor toolbar.
  4. Paste the URL into the text field of the dialogue that appears.
  5. To apply the link, press Enter on your keyboard or use the Apply button on the dialogue.

Types of Links

  • A page URL is the most common link you will use. It is a link to another site or page. (e.g. https://www.bemidjistate.edu/about/)
  • Email address link text should have mailto: followed by the the email address with no spaces (e.g. mailto:some.person@bemidjistate.edu)
  • Phone number link text should have tel: followed by the the phone number with no formatting (e.g. tel:2187552001)
