MITEL desk phones are going away at BSU and NTC!
Zoom phone is here. To make and receive Zoom phone calls, most staff and faculty will find that their BSU-issued computer or cell phone, or personal cell phone if configured, is all that is needed. Your BSU-issued laptop includes a microphone and speakers sufficient for most calls, and may be used whether the laptop is open or closed.
Given the sensitive nature of some calls and the design of certain work spaces, you may find that a headset is preferred or required. Departments are responsible for purchasing headsets when needed, and these will not be provided by ITS. Very limited BSU/NTC support is available for equipment you purchase for Zoom phone.
Headsets: A few things to consider
- USB wired headsets are inexpensive and relatively problem-free. A good USB wired headset costs about $20.
- These can be adapted to USB-C if your computer doesn't have USB-A ports. Alternatively, most LCD displays at workstations have USB hubs that can be configured to increase the number of ports at your disposal. Contact the ITS HelpDesk for assistance with making these connections.
- USB "nub" receiver (dongle) wireless headsets extend your range away from your desk to allow some freedom of movement.
- Bluetooth wireless headsets should work with most Windows and MacOS computers. However, connection problems and poor quality are common.
- Wireless headsets with charging cradles or cables are preferred over non-rechargeable options.
- Over-the ear headsets may be more comfortable than on-the-ear devices if you are on the phone a lot during the day.
