Export a D2L Course

Summary

Directions on how to export a D2L course

Body

If you teach the same course each semester or each year, you typically copy materials forward into the next semester and will not lose your materials; however, if you do not plan to teach a course for an extended period of time, it is advisable to export the entire course. Exported courses are saved to a zip package which can be imported into a new D2L shell.

  1. In D2L, enter the course you wish to Export
  2. Click the Course Admin link in the navigation bar
  3. Click Import/Export/Copy Components
  4. Click one of the Export Components options and leave the check mark to include course files
    • The Brightspace Package is the standard export for Brightspace LMS, it contains all the necessary resources you need to share your course with another Brightspace site.
    • Common Cartridge is a specification developed by the IMS Global Learning Consortium. The specification describes a set of open standards for content, assessment, and digital content that allows publishers and content creators to create LMS-independent course packages. Brightspace exports as IMS Common Cartridge 1.3
    • Thin Common Cartridge (Thin CC) is a specification developed by the IMS Global Learning Consortium. The Thin CC standard is a subset of Common Cartridge developed to package Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) Links, Web Links, and metadata. Brightspace exports as IMS Thin CC 1.3.
