Grade individual quiz question in D2L

Summary

Instructions for grading individual quiz questions in D2L.

Body

If you are using short answer or written response questions in your quiz, you can grade all student responses to a single question in one location (rather than grading each student’s quiz individually).

If you need to re-grade a question because the answer key was incorrect, because you want to give everyone credit for a question, or because you used short-answer questions and want to accept additional answers, you can grade all responses to a question in one location.

Grade Individual Questions:

  1. Select Quizzes on the Navbar

  1. Select the arrow next to the Quiz and select Grade

  1. Select the Questions tab

  2. Select either Grade Individual Responses, or Update All Attempts

    1. Grade Individual Responses: Use this option to grade written response (essay) and short answer questions, and to re-grade complicated question types such as matching and ordering. NOTE: You can check the box for Blind Marking if you want students to remain anonymous while you are grading.

    2. Update All Attempts: Use this option to re-grade true/false and multiple-choice questions.

  3. Scroll down to the list of Questions and select the first question that you want to grade or re-grade. You will see the questions listed along with the question type. SA = short answer, WR = written response, MC = multiple choice, etc.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you edit a question after students begin taking the quiz (i.e., to correct an error of any kind) the question will be listed twice on this page.

  • The question in the top section is the current version of the question. All future student attempts on the quiz will get the current version of the question.

  • The question in the bottom section under the title, Questions that are not in the quiz anymore, is the original version of the question. Depending on when you edit the question, you may need to grade both versions of the question. For example, if a few students take a quiz and then you realize there is an error, you can correct the question for the remaining students. However, you will need to grade both versions of the question to complete your grading.

  1. After you select a question, you will begin grading

  2. If you chose the option for Grade Individual Attempts, you would see the first student’s response to the question. To see multiple student responses on one page, use the dropdown menu to select up to 20 responses per page

  1. Scroll through the student responses and enter scores for each

  1. At the bottom of the page, select Save or Save and Continue

  1. When finished, select Save and then select Go Back to Questions

  1. If you choose to Update All Attempts, you will see the question and the question statistics.

    1. Scroll down to the Grading Type section and fill in the blanks for how you want to grade the question.

    2. When finished, select Save and then select Go Back to Questions.
