StarID Password Update for Students (Effective July 1, 2026)

Summary

StarID password requirements are changing July 1, 2026. Passwords must be 15+ characters and need to be updated only once every 13 months. You do not need to change your password on July 1, but the next time you update it, the new rules will apply.

Overview

Beginning July 1, 2026, updated StarID password requirements will take effect.

You do not need to change your password on that date. The new requirements apply the next time you change your password.

What’s Changing?

  •     Passwords must be at least 15 characters long
  •     Passwords are changed once every 13 months
  •     Special characters are no longer required


What is a Passphrase?

A passphrase is a longer password made up of multiple words.

Examples:

  •     CoffeeBooksSunshine2026
  •     MyDogEatsPizzaOnFridays


Avoid Getting Locked Out

  •     Enter your password carefully
  •     Too many incorrect attempts will temporarily lock your account
  •     Wait about 10 minutes before trying again


What You Should Do

  •     Plan to use a longer password or passphrase
  •     Take your time when logging in
