StarID password requirements are changing July 1, 2026. Passwords must be 15+ characters and need to be updated only once every 13 months. You do not need to change your password on July 1, but the next time you update it, the new rules will apply.

Overview
Beginning July 1, 2026, updated StarID password requirements will take effect.
You will not be required to change your password that day, but any future password changes must follow the new requirements.
What’s Changing?
Password Requirements
- Minimum 15 characters
- Change frequency: 13 months
- Special characters are no longer required
Account Lockout Protection
- Locked after 10 failed login attempts
- Lockout lasts at least 10 minutes
Important: Avoid Device Login Issues
When changing your password:
- Use your state-issued device
- Connect to the network:
- On campus: wired connection
- Off campus: VPN first
- Restart your device after changing your password

- Plan to create a longer passphrase
- Follow proper steps when changing your password
