What Does This Mean?
If you previously registered the Microsoft Outlook mobile app as an authentication method, Microsoft may use Outlook to verify your identity during sign-in.
You may see a sign-in prompt similar to the image below.

Important: The Outlook mobile app can function as a Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) method. If Microsoft asks you to open Outlook and enter a number, this is a legitimate sign-in verification request and is expected for some users. This does not require the Microsoft Authenticator app.
Solution
Step 1: Leave the Sign-In Window Open
Do not close the browser window or application displaying the sign-in request.
Note the two-digit number shown on the screen.
Step 2: Open the Outlook Mobile App
Open the Microsoft Outlook app on the mobile device associated with your account.
Step 3: Enter the Number
A sign-in approval request should appear within Outlook.
When prompted:
- Enter the number displayed on the sign-in screen.
- Select Approve or Continue.
- Complete any additional verification required by your device, such as Face ID, fingerprint, or device PIN.
Step 4: Complete Sign-In
Return to your computer. Once the request is approved, the sign-in process should continue automatically.
Not Seeing the Approval Request?
If the prompt does not appear in Outlook:
- Open the Outlook app.
- Swipe down to refresh.
- Check again for the approval request.
Microsoft may display the message:
Didn't receive a sign-in request? Swipe down to refresh the content in your app.
Need Additional Help?
If you no longer have access to the previously registered device or do not receive the approval request, contact the ITS Help Desk. ITS must verify your identity before resetting your MFA registration.
