Bensen 317: Smart Room Instructions

Bensen 317 is a smart classroom seating 42 students in rows of tables and chairs.

Connecting at the Instructor Podium

Connect the HDMI cable for in-room sharing from a laptop. A USB-C adaptor is provided if needed.

  • Wake up the touch screen panel by tapping it anywhere. Tap the green start button on the touch panel.
  • Tap the Projector Control button on the left side, then tap the Laptop HDMI input button. The projector will turn on automatically. If not, tap the Projector On button.
  • If the laptop display is not shown within 10 seconds, configure the laptop to send output to a second display.
    1. On Windows, hold the Windows key and press the "P" key to bring up your extended monitor options. Choose "Duplicate" or "Extend" depending on your needs.
    2. On MacOS, click the Screen Mirroring icon in the top bar and select the Extron display.
  • Adjust the volume of your laptop content using the touch screen volume controls as needed.

Using the Document Camera or DVD Player

The touch panel has input buttons for a Doc Cam and for a Blu-ray DVD player.

  • Tap the Document Camera input, and then ensure the document camera is turned on (blue LED lights = on, red lights = off). Position the item of interest below the camera lens, and adjust using the doc cam remote (Elmo), including zoom, focus, and lighting. 
  • Tap the Blu-Ray input. Open the cabinet door to reveal the Blu-ray player. Ensure it is powered on, and insert the disc you wish to play. Use the Blu-Ray control buttons provided on the touch panel to navigate the disc contents. You may also use the Denon remote control provided on the instructor table.

Using the wireless lapel microphone

  • Open the front of the microphone case and flip the power switch to the "on" position. Check the mute switch on the top of the device.
  • Clip the microphone head to your lapel or collar, pointing towards your mouth.
  • Please remember to flip the power switch back to "off" when done.
