Question

What do I do if I received a phishing email?

Answer

If you receive an email that you suspect is a phishing attempt, please follow the below instructions:

  1. Do not click on any links in the message.
  2. Forward the message as an attachment to Phishing@minnstate.edu. This will alert the System Office security team, who can begin the process of quarantining the malicious site using Internet Guardian.
Note: Do not forward the message to anyone else (including the help desk).
  3. Delete the email

I clicked, now what?

If you have followed a link in the email, or entered any credentials on a website, please see KB article, What to do if you’ve fallen for a phishing attack https://services.bemidjistate.edu/TDClient/84/Portal/KB/ArticleDet?ID=2006 and contact the ITS help desk immediately.
