Question

What do I do if I received a phishing email?

Answer

If you receive an email that you suspect is a phishing attempt:

  1. Do not click on any links in the message.
  2. 'Report' it as phishing.  To do this: In the client version of Outlook with the email open, 'Report' is found on the top right of the ribbon.   In the web version of Outlook, right click on the message and 'Report' is on the lower half of the drop down menu that appears.
  3. Delete the email

I clicked, now what?

If you have followed a link in the email, or entered any credentials on a website, please see KB article, What to do if you’ve fallen for a phishing attack https://services.bemidjistate.edu/TDClient/84/Portal/KB/ArticleDet?ID=2006 and contact the ITS help desk immediately.
