Question
How can I change the phone number or default authentication method tied to my Minnstate Office 365 account?
Answer
I have access to the current authentication method:
If you have access to the phone number or Microsoft Authenticator app when logging into your Microsoft Office 365 account you have the ability to update the information by doing the following:
- Navigate to https://www.office.com/ and sign in with your Minnstate login credentials.
- Students enter your StarID@go.minnstate.edu and StarID password.
- Employees enter your StarID@minnstate.edu and StarID password.
- Select the circle in the top right corner of the screen and click "View Account"
- On the Overview screen select "Security Information" to access the existing phone numbers or Microsoft Authenticator devices.
- You can choose to "Add sign-in method"
- You can select "Change" next to an existing phone number to update the phone number.
- You can select "Delete" to remove that verification method from your account.
This screen also allows you to sign out of everywhere. If you have a lost or stolen device this is a quick way to ensure your account is signed out of everywhere.
I do not have access to the phone number or Microsoft Authenticator anymore:
If you no longer have access to the phone number the code or call is going to, or you got a new phone and need to set up the Microsoft Authenticator app again to gain access to your account ITS can assist you with this process.
- You can submit the following service request for assistance: Report Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Issues
- You can call us at 218-755-3777 for assistance and leave us a voicemail if its after hours.
- You can stop by our office in Deputy Hall 161 for in person assistance from 9am - 3pm Monday-Friday.
