Question

How can I change the phone number or default authentication method for my Minnstate Office 365 account?

Answer

I have access to the current authentication method:

If you can access the phone number or the Microsoft Authenticator app when logging into your Microsoft Office 365 account, you can update your information by following these steps:

  1. Go to https://www.office.com/ and sign in with your Minnstate login details.
    1. Students: enter your StarID@go.minnstate.edu and your StarID password.
    2. Employees: enter your StarID@minnstate.edu and your StarID password.
  2. Click the circle in the top right corner and select "View Account"
  3. On the Overview screen, click on "Security Information" to view your current phone numbers or Microsoft Authenticator devices.
    1. Select "Add sign-in method"
    2. Click "Change" next to an existing phone number to update it.
    3. Click "Delete" to remove that verification method from your account.

Security Info screen

This screen also lets you sign out of all devices. If your device is lost or stolen, this is a quick way to secure your account.

I do not have access to the phone number or Microsoft Authenticator anymore:

If you can't access the phone number for codes or calls, or if you got a new phone and need to set up the Microsoft Authenticator app again, ITS can help you with this process.
