Question
How can I change the phone number or default authentication method for my Minnstate Office 365 account?
Answer
I have access to the current authentication method:
If you can access the phone number or the Microsoft Authenticator app when logging into your Microsoft Office 365 account, you can update your information by following these steps:
- Go to https://www.office.com/ and sign in with your Minnstate login details.
- Students: enter your StarID@go.minnstate.edu and your StarID password.
- Employees: enter your StarID@minnstate.edu and your StarID password.
- Click the circle in the top right corner and select "View Account"
- On the Overview screen, click on "Security Information" to view your current phone numbers or Microsoft Authenticator devices.
- Select "Add sign-in method"
- Click "Change" next to an existing phone number to update it.
- Click "Delete" to remove that verification method from your account.

This screen also lets you sign out of all devices. If your device is lost or stolen, this is a quick way to secure your account.
I do not have access to the phone number or Microsoft Authenticator anymore:
If you can't access the phone number for codes or calls, or if you got a new phone and need to set up the Microsoft Authenticator app again, ITS can help you with this process.
