Special Access for D2L Assignments and Quizzes

If you want to allow a student to turn in an assignment or submit a quiz outside of the parameters of the activity, you can grant the student “Special Access.” 

NOTE: Special Access is not available in the Discussions tool.

Add Special Access

  1. Select Assignments or Quizzes on the Navbar
  2. Select the arrow next to an assignment/quiz and select Edit 
  3. Select the Availability Dates & Conditions menu on the right side of the page
  4. Select Manage Special Access
  5. Leave the top radio button selected (Allow users with special access to submit .../Allow selected users special access to this quiz...) NOTE: The only time you will use the 2nd option is when you are doing a make-up or special assignment/quiz for a specific student or group of students and you only want that student/group to see the activity.
  6. Select Add Users to Special Access
    1. For an Assignment, select new date(s)
    2. For a Quiz, select new dates, timing options and/or number of attempts
    3. NOTE: If you have a student with an accommodation for extra time on all quizzes, set the accommodation through the Classlist (see note below).
  7. Scroll down to the list of Users (students) and select the box next to the student’s name (be sure you are viewing all students on one page, if you have to move to a second page of names, it will clear the special access options that you set and you will need to re-select your options)
  8. Select Save
  9. Select Save and Close

Set an Accommodation for Extra Time on All Quizzes

If you have a student with an accommodation for extra time on all quizzes, set the accommodation through the Classlist​​​​​​ instead of editing each quiz.
