The Quizzes tool allows you to create a variety of assessments for your students including quizzes, exams, and/or homework assignments. The Quizzes tool can be used to create many types of questions, such as multiple-choice, true/false, and long answer. Some of these questions can be graded automatically and then automatically exported to the Gradebook.
Create a Quiz
NOTE: There are several ways to get questions into your quiz. This tutorial will provide instructions on creating questions directly in the D2L quiz.

Select Quizzes from the Navbar

Select New Quiz

Enter an appropriate Quiz Title.

Select Add Existing, New Question, and select a question type
Add Questions
Create True or False Questions

Select True or False.
-
Enter Question Text.
-
Select the circle button by the correct Answer choice (True or False).

Enter a point value.
-
Additional options are available in the Options menu (Add feedback, Add hint, Add short description, and Add/Remove enumeration.)

You will see a Preview of the question in the right frame of the page.

Select Save, or select Save and New or Save and Copy to continue creating True/False questions.
Create Multiple Choice Questions

Select Multiple Choice.

Enter Question Text.

In the Answers section, enter the answer choices. If you wish to add more choices, select the Add Answer button. To remove an answer choice, select the “X” to the right of the choice.

Select the circle button beside the correct Answer.

If you would like to randomize the answer choices, select Randomize answer order.

Enter the point value.

There are additional options available in the Options menu (Add feedback, Add hint, Add short description, Add custom weights, and Add/Remove enumeration).

You will see a Preview of the question in the right frame of the page.

Select Save, or select Save and New or Save and Copy to continue creating Multiple Choice questions.
Create Written Response Questions

To create an essay question, select Create New, New Question, Written Response.

Enter Question Text. For more editing/inserting options, use the popup toolbar.

[Optional] Select the box for Enable HTML Editor for learner responses. This will give students a few formatting tools.

[Optional] Select the box for Allow learners to insert images and add attachments. This will give students the ability to add files or pictures to their answer.

Enter a Point value.

There are additional options available in the Options menu (Add feedback, Add hint, Add short description, Add answer key, Add custom response box size, Add initial text).

Select Save or select Save and New or Save and Copy to continue creating Written Response questions.
Finish setting up the quiz

When you are done creating all of your questions, select the Save button to protect your current work.

Scroll back up to the top of the page. Here you will find the options to add a new grade item or link to an existing grade item, enter a due date, and add a description.
NOTE: If you have already set up a grade item for the quiz in your gradebook then you must select the option to Edit or link to Existing. Otherwise, D2L will create a duplicate grade item for the quiz in your gradebook.

When you are done, scroll to the bottom of the page and select Save.
Availability Dates & Conditions (Managing Quiz Access)

[Optional] On the right side of the page select Availability Dates & Conditions.

[Optional] Enter a start and end date for your quiz.

[Optional] You can also add release conditions, manage special access, and add a password for your quiz.
Timing & Display

On the right side of the page, select Timing & Display.

In the Timing section, select the Set time limit box.

Enter a time in minutes

Select the Timer Setting link for more options

Under Paging, select how many questions appear on each page.

[Optional] Select the Shuffle Quiz box to randomize the question order for each student.
Attempts & Completion

On the right side of the page, select Attempts & Completion
-
In the Attempts section, select Manage Attempts to select how many attempts each student may have, and how the grade should be calculated.

Select OK
Evaluation & Feedback
-
On the right side of the page, select Evaluation & Feedback
-
If you would like students to see their results immediately, select the box for Auto-publish attempt results immediately upon completion.
NOTE: Not all types of questions can be automatically scored.

If you would like scores to be sent to the gradebook, you must make that selection on the left side of quiz creation page as described above (bottom of page 3), then you can select the box for Synchronize to grade book on publish.

Under the heading “When published, display to learners,” select the box to show students their attempt grade.

Use the menu to select an option for displaying questions to students.

If you would like to select additional options, select the Customize Quiz Results Displays link.
RECOMMENDATION: The quiz results page can be copied and printed; therefore, leave the default “No questions” setting until after all students have completed the quiz or the quiz period is over. Then go back into the quiz and change the settings to allow students to view the questions with correct answers.

Select Save.
Preview a Quiz
It is always a good idea to preview a quiz before you release it to students.

To preview a quiz, select the arrow next to the quiz and select Preview.

Select Start Quiz.

In the preview mode, you can answer questions, submit the quiz, and view the graded attempt as a student would do.
