Give Special Access to D2L Quizzes

Occasionally, you will need to allow a student to have “Special Access” to a quiz. Special access includes circumstances such as:

  • A student needs to take a quiz early

  • A student needs to take a quiz late

  • You want to allow a student to have additional attempts

Give a student Special Access

  1. Select a Quiz

  1. Expand the Availability Dates & Conditions menu on the right side of the page

  1. Select the Manage Special Access link

  1. Leave the top radio button selected which says, “Allow selected users access to this quiz” (NOTE: The only time you will use the 2nd option is when you are doing a make-up exam for a specific student, and you only want that student to see the quiz).

  1. Select Add Users to Special Access

  1. To give a different Time Limit: Under Timing, select either Override time limit, and/or Override behavior when time limit is exceeded, then enter the new time limit settings.

  1. To give a student more attempts: Under Attempts, select the Override attempts allowed box and then enter how many attempts the student can have. Select Apply. In most cases, you will leave the Min. and Max numbers blank.

  1. Scroll down to the list of Users (students) and select the box next to the student’s name (be sure you are viewing all students on one page, if you have to move to a second page of names, it will clear the special access options that you set and you will need to re-select your options)
