D2L Use Publisher Test Banks for Quizzes

Many textbook publishers provide additional resources to instructors, such as test banks. If you would like to import questions from a test bank into a D2L quiz, follow these general instructions. Keep in mind that all test bank programs are unique. If you need assistance, please contact the Teaching and Learning Center.

Import Questions from a Test Bank

  1. Obtain the quiz or test bank. These items come in a variety of formats. You will likely need to do one of the following. (When possible, choose the D2L format. If D2L is not an option, try using the most recent Blackboard format.)
    1. Download a zip file from a DVD or website to your computer
    2. Or…create a quiz using the publisher’s test bank software. After you create the quiz, look for a Save As or Export command that will allow you to save the quiz in either a D2L or Blackboard Format. This will create a zip file that you will save to your computer.
  2. Import the zip file into D2L
    1. Enter your D2L course
    2. Select Other Tools, Course Admin, and then Import / Export / Copy Components
    3. Select Import Components, from a course package, and then select Start
    4. Select Upload and then select the zip file from your computer
    5. Select Import All Components
    6. Select View Content
  3. Select Quizzes on the Navbar to find your quiz. NOTE: Depending on how the zip file imports, the quiz questions will either be placed in a new quiz, or in the question library. If the quiz questions are imported to the Question Library, you will need to create a new quiz and then import the questions from the Question Library (see instructions below).
  4. Finish setting up the quiz. For more information, see the Quizzes: Basics tutorial.
  5. Preview the quiz
    1. Select the arrow next to the quiz name and then select Preview
    2. Select Start Quiz!
    3. To ensure your answer key is correct, answer all T/F and MC questions
    4. Select Submit Quiz
    5. Check your results, and then select Exit Preview
    6. Make modifications to your quiz if necessary
