Overview
Checklists in a course can be very useful for the instructor and the student. Checklists provide a list of items that students can check off to ensure they completed certain steps of a task, instructions, or assignments. You can have multiple checklists in your course, such as a checklist for items students need to complete each week. For a sample, a week 2 checklist may contain three items for students to complete: "Review content module", "Read Chapters 2-3" (both under the Study Materials category), and "Complete discussion" (under the Homework category).

In this example, the student will access the checklist and the first homework item they need to do is “Complete discussion”. If an item is overdue, the due date is in red. The student will select the checkbox next to the item in the checklist and move on to the next item.
Create a checklist
NOTE: To make a checklist visible to students, you must create the checklist, add at least one category, and add at least one item.
You must also add the checklist to the Content page.
- Select Course Admin from the Course Tools menu in the course Navbar
- Select Checklist
- Select New Checklist
- Enter the Name of the checklist
- Select Save
- Create at least one Category for the checklist items.
- Select New Category
- Enter a Name
- Select Save
- Select New Item to begin adding items. Items are the things that students check off to complete.
- Enter a Name for the item
- Add a due date by selecting the Due Date check box and entering a date and time it is due
- To display this date in the course calendar, check the Display in Calendar check box
- Select Save
- Repeat step 6 and 7 until you’ve added all the items to the checklist
- When finished, select Save and Close.
Add a checklist to Content
After you create your checklist, add it to your Content Page
- Select Content on the course Navbar
- Select a Unit (previously called Modules) or Lesson (previously called sub-modules)
- Select Add Existing, then select Checklist
- Select the Checklist you wish to add to the Unit or Lesson

My checklists do not display in line in Content - what can I do?
The New Content Experience may not display Checklists in line in the Content page. Instead an "open checklist" button may display and navigate students to the checklist in the Checklist tool.
As a work around, consider creating a HTML page (with some content) and insert the checklist as a quicklink (in the HTML toolbar > Insert Quicklink > Checklist > edit icon for the checklist > select the 'current window' option). Then when students select the link on the page, the checklist displays in line in the Content tool.
After a student selects the quicklink to the checklist, the checklist displays in line in the Content page.
